EYE DISEASES
They are physical disorders that develop due to environmental or genetic factors and can lead to various vision problems. Any kind of disease that occurs in the eyelids, the eye membrane, known as the transparent layer that protects the eye against external influences, the tear ducts, the lens of the eye or the nerve tissues surrounding the eye are called eye diseases
VISION CORRECTION AVAILABLE SURGERY:
There are many methods in refractive surgery such as excimer laser, femtolasic, clear refractive lens replacement, astigmatic keratotomy. The determination of these methods varies from patient to patient.
What is eye laser surgery?
Using prescription glasses or contact lenses for various reasons can give a feeling of boredom over the years. People may want to stop using glasses or contact lenses for physical or emotional reasons. For this reason, the procedures that save the person from wearing glasses and achieve distance and near vision without glasses with a laser or a different surgical intervention are called refractive surgery in the medical language.
In general, laser eye surgery is best suited for people with moderate refractive errors and no unusual vision problems. Such surgeries can be applied to people with low and moderate myopia, astigmatism or hyperopia.
Smart Lens:
There are many types of multifocal intraocular lenses. Because smart lens models are suitable for every eye type and color. The types of multifocal intraocular lenses can be listed as trifocal lenses that allow us to see far, medium and near distances, and bifocal lenses created according to the lifestyle of the patient.
Laser Vs smart lens depending on age group:
Patients between the ages of 20-35 who are myopic between -1 and -6 (there may be some astigmatism, -2 or even -3) and whose eye structure is suitable are the most suitable candidates for excimer laser procedures. Things get a little more complicated as near vision problems come into play in the 35-45 age group.
It is necessary to be much more careful in patients in this group. In the period between the ages of 40-45, it is important to evaluate the expectation of the person very well and to direct them accordingly.
After the age of 45, different options come to the fore. Excimer laser procedures are generally not preferred here, especially because vision problems occur in the near future. Because with these procedures, it is not possible to correct both near and far in a healthy way. This is where smart lens surgeries come into play. However, with the smart lens method, it is possible to provide clear vision both far and near.
How is it performed?
Laser eye surgery procedures involve using a laser to burn off small sections of the cornea to correct the curvature. Therefore, the light provides better focusing on the retina.
There are three basic types of laser eye surgery:
Photorefractive keratectomy (PRK); A small amount of corneal surface is removed; laser application is applied to remove tissue and change the shape of the cornea.
Laser epithelial keratomileusis (LASEK); It is similar to PRK but requires numbing to loosen the surface of the cornea. Therefore, a flap flap can be removed using a laser process to change the shape of the cornea, and the flap will be replaced later.
Laser in situ keratectomy (LASIK); A similar but smaller corneal wing is created in LASEK.
