Tube Baby (IVF)

In vitro fertilization is an assisted reproductive method that involves the fertilization of egg cells from the woman and sperm from the man in a laboratory environment and the placement of the fertilized embryo in the woman’s uterus. Pregnancy takes place from a certain number of embryos selected and placed in the uterus during the process of conception obtained by Ordinary ways.

What are the appropriate methods?

According to the fertilization of the ovaries, IVF or ICSI treatment is applied. In cases where there is no problem with sperm count and quality, in vitro fertilization is preferred and the sperms are fertilized on their own. In the ICIS method, the egg is ready for injection and the sperm is placed in a single egg.

Who should do IVF?

IVF treatment is applied depending on some factors.

  • If the fallopian tubes are closed, damaged or removed in women.
  • When there is an adhesion that prevents the fallopian tubes from receiving the formed eggs.
  • If the woman is of advanced age and her fertility is low.
  • infertility cannot be treated with drug therapy.
  • Low sperm count in men and poor sperm quality or lack thereof.

What do the treatment steps include?

After assessing the couple’s general health and the reasons for childlessness, the couples are informed by specialist doctors and the treatment process begins.

1. Stimulation of the ovum:

Stimulation of the ovaries and obtaining a large number of eggs is the basis of IVF treatment. In this process, the ovaries must be closely monitored, and a pelvic examination is performed every 2-3 days on average. In these controls, the dosage of the drugs is adjusted according to the women’s hormone levels.

2. Egg collection:

After the eggs reach a certain size, hormone injections are made to break them up and the collection procedure is performed. In this procedure, the eggs are accessed by passing a needle through the vagina under ultrasound guidance. The pairs are emptied a few hours after assembly, which takes an average of 20-30 minutes.

3. Fertilization of the Egg:

The eggs collected in various ways are fertilized in an appropriate laboratory environment and embryo formation is ensured. After fertilization, which takes place between 12 and 15 hours on average, good eggs are selected and planned for their day in the womb.

4. Embryo Transfer:

Depending on the quality of the embryos, the fertilized eggs are transferred to the uterus for a maximum of two days. Transfer involves passing the removed embryos through the cervix and leaving them in a catheter. The embryos are transferred using ultrasound. A progesterone or estrogen supplement is given by injection for two weeks after the transfer.

What is the success rate of the treatment?

The success rate for women under 30 is thought to be 45-50% and 15-20% at older ages.
